Ford has unveiled the all new Ford Explorer which will launch in the US by the end of this year, which indicates the end of a the highly irritating strip tease of its new model. Its website has come up and has confirmed its features, engines and the rest. Ford will be launching 2011 Explorer with a base price tag of $28,190 which is about a 1000$ cheaper than the previous version of the Explorer.
Ford Explorer is a very popular car in the US and a newer and better version will trigger the sales charts even more. Ford should have huge confidence in the new Explorer if it keeps a tag like “Redefining What it Means to be an SUV” for the Explorer. The new Explorer has been completely redesigned, added new engines, features added, interiors that impress and has the space of a van.
The Ford Explorer 2011 is a production version of the Explorer America concept that was unveiled at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. The Explorer looks good and is built keeping in mind the overall weight of the car. The car shares its design cues from the all new Ford Taurus. Ford gives it a more sharp transformer type look to the Explorer and it looks quite appealing.
This big guy will come with a new 3.5L TiVCT V6 engine that produces an impressive 290 bhp and torque of 255 lb-ft mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission instead of a V8 unit. This makes up compared to the previous model by reducing the weight of the car. The V6 engine is light than the V8 by 2000 pounds and the hood is made of aluminium which reduces the weight further.
Ford will also be entering the Explorer into the green market by introducing a 2.0L EcoBoost engine is a turbocharged direct injection engine that produces torque on par with the V6 model. This engine improves economy of the vehicle to about 30% better and also reduces turbo lag. The EcoBoost is a small engine with a high torque, high economy and performance as well. But it will also come with a higher price tag.
The interiors are impressive as it is loaded with features, comfortable and huge. There is standard seating for 7 and also for 6 with quad buckets. It has great leg and head room for all the 3 rows and also a big cargo storage area. New features include Explorers hands free bluetooth enabled phone, advanced navigation, heated/cooled front seats with three comfort settings, cruise control and Sony Audio system.
The Ford Explorer is a very good car that will be on the sales chart again. Ford needs to live up to its SUV expectations. Styling is good and so is its interiors and features. We have yet to wait for its performance results. And that will be with us in the end of 2010
