I worked on DirectX for long time and now i assimilated the concept of how graphic works.

I made game with the d3d and managed to load static and animated models.

What i’m looking now is for a free Game engine.

I worked with c++ with DirectX so i pointed at UDK.

I’ve installed it but it runs like crap since for now i’m stuck on this laptop with an intel graphic card.

So now (at least till i buy a new pc) i am searching for a good game engine but first few questions:

Should i switch to C# and work with an engine based on that language (since most of the engines are following that way)?
if Yes, is there a way (even if i know that c++!= c#) to learn c# avoiding the really basic stuff (aka can you point at some tutorials of this genre)?

Now, what i’m looking into a Game Engine:

- My platform will be windows mainly, but if the engine provides more platform it is indeed welcomed.
- I want to work in a 3d environment (if it supports 2d that’s cool too)
- Since i want to use it for practice for the moment (will use it for commercial purposes in the future) i do not have any restriction in genre. Maybe just be able to produce something in 3rd person and RPG like (i repeat something generic and not too specialized).
- Like i said earlier: it should be free (indie style).

Search engine giant Google said that its Chromebook, a laptop-like device which runs Google’s Chrome OS (not to be confused with the Chrome browser) will be available in India in 2012.

Addressing the media, Mr Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice-President, Chrome and Apps for Google, said, “We have noted that Chrome is very popular on laptops. That is why, we decided to create a laptop.”

The Chromebook began shipping worldwide in June this year and is made by companies such as Acer and Samsung. The product is not available in stores even in the US, but one can buy it from Amazon.com.

Prices range from $349 (Rs 17,694) for an Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook to $499.99 (Rs 25,350) for a Samsung Series 5 3G 12.1-inch Chromebook.

Discussing Google Buzz, the company’s social networking attempt launched in February 2010 and was shut down in October this year, he said that without Google Buzz, there would have been no Google Plus.

“We learnt about the browser by building a toolbar before we built the Chrome browser. With Google Buzz, we had privacy issues, but we learnt from that.” He said that if the company had not learnt from Google Buzz, it might have committed the same mistakes with Google Plus.

If you plan to buy your loved ones, friends and co-workers iTunes gift certificates this holiday season you might want to avoid e-mail offers for the cards. A group of 11 specialists are warning buyers of fake certificates that offer no monetary value while placing malware on the users computer.

The emails, which read “iTunes Gift Certiicate” provide readers with a 50% off option that will then give them a code that can be used for music downloads. Once a user downloads the file via attachment their computer is immediately infected.

In order to have users activate the malware the file says they must open the file ”Gift_Certificate_iT2718.zip which in turn created a “backdoor” into the users computer which then allows the hackers to grab personal information such as credit cards and passwords.

Making matters worse the system creates a link to a remote server which allows for further contamination of the PC.

Holiday buyers are warned that other gift card scams are also circulating, including a popular option from a fake Starbucks account.

Even if an email looks very real, unsolicited emails should be ignored and remember that if an offer is “too good to be true” it likely is and should be avoided.

Skype says that nearly five million people downloaded version 2.0 of its iPhone app, which allows calls over 3G, in the first four days it has been available. That’s a big number, especially considering that the app was released on a Saturday night with as little fanfare as would seem possible.

Reuters first reported the Skype stat, current through “Wednesday morning.” We contacted the company to double check (no offense, Reuters, but that is a huge number). Skype confirmed the five million downloads figure and said it likely includes upgrades, explaining why its app didn’t shoot to the top of the U.S. iTunes store “free app” list, and the “five million” number, of course, includes all global downloads.

China’s leading telecom company Huawei has confirmed that it is in talks with Microsoft over the use of Android software.

Huawei Device’s chief marketing officer, Victor Xu, said the discussions are “in progress”.

He also revealed that the firm plans to open a new design centre in London, and would expand to expand into the US, Japan and India next year, and then other parts of the world in 2013.

“Over the next three years we are aiming to be in the top five smartphone makers, and in the top three in the next five years. We have established very aggressive targets in the market,” the BBC quoted Xu, as saying.

Meanwhile, it is suspected that Huawei’s mobile device roll-out could lead it into a clash with Microsoft.

The US company has claimed that the Android system, which is used by Huawei’s devices, exploits some of its innovations.

Xu, however, hinted that his firm is able to defend itself.

“We always respect the intellectual property of key companies. At the moment we have more than 65,000 patents and we have enough instruments to protect our interests,” Xu said.

Microsoft said it would not comment on the status of “confidential patent licensing discussions”.
