If you are tired of being hog-tied to the AT&T network and would like to have a bit of freedom to move to another carrier, your time has come. Ultrasn0w is a relatively popular application this week. Last week the United States government told the world that they thought it was okay to unlock smartphones. If you think about it, what took them so long to admit it ? Your iPhone 4 is yours if you have paid for it. You can install Android on it if you feel so lead. What you more likely want to do is just to break free of AT&T and get some cool iPhone 4 apps ( read : games ) on it. That screen and the new gyroscope are calling your name !
Since the latest firmware release, 4.0.1, for your iPhone 4 was just released today, you may not be able to use the unlockme.com site. They are super busy anyway, so their servers may be overloaded. If you want to try this, go ahead and visit their site. Before you do, backup your iPhone with iTunes in case something goes wrong during your unlock iphone 4 with Ultrasn0w. If the unlockme site is down because of an overload, an alternate site is “unlockme.modmyi.com”. Make sure you visit the site using your Safari browser and not an Opera browser. After visiting the site you will see a slider on your screen saying “slide to unlock”. Slide it to the right and the unlock will begin. The window will ask you if you want to unlock your iPhone and of course you do. Once you do, the “downloading” window will appear. Allow the download to continue until it is done.
When it is done you will be able to access a new program on your iPhone 4. It is called Cydia. Open up Cydia. Do a search for “mobile substrate” while Cydia is open on your iPhone. When you find it open it and start to install it. When it is finished installing, reboot your iPhone 4. Go back to the Cydia program after the reboot is done and open a search page. Click on “All packages”, then scroll down to the “U” section and find Ultrasn0w. Open it and install it on your iPhone. It will download and configure itself, just be patient while it does its work. When you see the button that says “Restart Springboard”, click on it. This involves just a bit more waiting. When it is done your iPhone 4 will ask you to enter your passcode. Once you do that, congratulations ! Your smartphone is unlocked.
After the unlock iPhone 4 using Ultrasn0w is successful, you will be able to use SIM cards from other networks. It is likely that you can now use your iPhone 4 on the T-Mobile carrier.
