Sony Ericsson will revolutionize the gaming industry in Android. I can see it coming.
The game industry moves several billion dollars per year and is a very fertile field for any business. The mobile phone industry and video game industry have always been known to be understood, complemented and supported by each other. This can be seen clearly with Apple and its devices and its iPhone application store, where the games are well-developed and of high-quality with infinite titles that fit perfectly with the company’s devices.
Moreover, Apple is leveraging even more the games industry with the inclusion of its Game Center platform in the latest revision of its operating system.
Of course Google and its Android does not want to stay behind and since some months we have been seeing some details that are bringing some improved efficiency in the operating system. Mark Deloura (former Nintendo, formerly of Sony Computer Entertainment and Ubisoft’s former manager) was chosen to take this process forward.
There are news circulating that they may revolutionize the world of video games on Android and will get nothing more and nothing less than Sony Ericsson as a managing partner. According to Engadget, Sony Ericsson is working on a very advanced device and could be released or at least be presented in the following month of October 2010, a device which will include Android operating system.
The device will have a screen between 3.7 and 4.1-inch with WVGA resolution or higher and may include a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor at 1 GHz speed and it will also have a 5 Mpx camera. Specifications may vary, but this combination is per se already astonishing.
The exterior will be black with silver accents. You will have some controls that will slide under the display like in the same way as the current Portable PlayStation.
The Android operating system will be the version 3.0 or aka Gingerbread. It will have an interface with access to a special section of the Android Market for video games. It is not clear whether the games that are available for this console will also be compatible with the terminals “normal” Android. Part of the catalog that Sony has developed for their current consoles reach the Android Market with titles such as Modern Warfare, or Little Big Planet. The graphic quality of games would be a midpoint between the old PSX and PSP of today and may also include some form of virtual reality.
This would be a major boost for the Android system in this area and will also serve to make themselves known in the world.
